Nature Drive Trust of India: Cleaning Our Coasts

Imagine a visit to a beach just to find it covered with filth. There goes your weekend outing with your family or friends. But what are you willing to do about it except crib and complain that the Government’s not doing anything to keep our coasts clean?

The Story
Siddhant Sadangi of Youthleader Global talks to a few people who are willing to get their hands dirty in cleaning up this mess.
Nature Drive Trust of India (NDTI) is an international group of specialists in their own field like educators, scientists, media people, businessmen and authorities committed to the protection of our globe.

.
The beginning:
NDTI started with a growing awareness for the gradual pollution and degradation of our planet caused by a multitude of neglected environmental incidents on our local level, with the goal of making our little planet Earth a better place to live. Right now, without delay! It aims to build a new generation of highly committed nature activists, who will secure a healthy and sustainable ecosystem for the future.
.
The approach:
“We do this by offering programs on – individual and collective – protection, preservation, conservation and management of our Earth ecosystem and its natural resources for environmental sustenance.”
.
Challenges:
The local and global challenge lies in making people see, identify and react on environmental threats. International communication (in time, language and culture and on internet) is another challenge.
.
Motivation:
“We have to keep going as our mission “making Earth a better place to live” is an endless global process. If we care, we cannot stop caring. If we are compassionate and responsible, we cannot abandon our compassion and responsibility either.”
.
Activities:
NDTI’s activities are a combination of cleanup activities, organising awareness seminars and having the opportunity to discuss their actions and visions. Most recently it had a series of coastal clean-up events along the coastline of the Gulf of Bengal. “Creating awareness for the fact that “making Earth a better place to live” is based on our equal and constant action to turn human rights, animal rights and nature rights into legal and social justice. If we fail any of these rights we fail in our mission.”
.
Future plans:
“Education, motivation and cooperation are the main “drives” of the new Nature Drive generation. We want to develop those drives offering the opportunity to discuss our issues with renowned environmentalists, ecologists and other specialists in sub-fields of our interest and action. But also with the decision makers we depend on. As pollution crosses borders we intend to team up with international sister organizations to exchange our goals, our knowledge, and our results.”
.

Message:
“We would like to thank not anybody, but everybody who has intentionally or even accidentally helped us from properly removing a cigarette butt to our most inspiring speaker on NDTI events. Our message to the youngsters out there would be: Passiveness never made a change for the better. Only activists can make our little planet Earth a better place to live.”
.
Team up:
Like any other NGO, NDTI needs volunteers- the more, the merrier. If you live in East India, please consider volunteering in their coastal cleanup events. If not, please contact them to stay updated if they have any sister international organisation active near your place.
